Workforce Development

Addressing the Workforce Shortage

Greater Health Now believes in investing in our future workforce to promote access in our community. We do this by partnering in short-term and long-term workforce development projects and initiatives. An example of this includes Scrubs Camp. Scrubs Camp is a one-day workshop for high school students to explore and cultivate a passion for health careers, especially those from diverse and underserved communities. By fostering curiosity and providing mentorship, Scrubs Camp strives to empower students to pursue careers that meet the growing demand for compassionate and skilled healthcare providers.

Greater Health Now hosts Scrubs Camps throughout our nine Counties. For more information or to get involved in the next Scrubs Camp, reach out to Dani Laforest at dlaforest@greaterhealthnow.org. Community-Based Workforce

What is a Community-Based Worker? A community-based worker is a trained (and licensed when required by law) individual who has a unique understanding of the experience, language, and culture of a particular population and provides culturally appropriate care coordination and resource navigation support to members of their community. A community-based worker may be a community-based professional such as community health worker; Promotora de Salud, community-based social worker, community-based nongovernmental nonprofit staff and human services provider, or other trusted community-based professional (e.g. doula, nurse, emergency medical technician, peer specialist, recovery and resource coach).

Greater Health Now provides partnership and training opportunities to community organizations that provide health and social services. By identifying resources available, like Camden Coalition and Department of Health trainings, we’ve developed a foundational academy with credible resources to train community-based workers. The community-based workforce primarily consists of individuals with lived experience. Studies show people seek out help if a trusting person suggests it. Greater Health Now wants to support that workforce for two reasons: for sustainability and professional growth. We are here to help with skill development and investment in the workers who help our communities thrive.
